Stretching

I saw a guy stretching his hand on the wall before a tournament a whole bunch of different ways.  That made me thing about how stretching is important for other sports and for lifting so it should probably be done before I enter a tournament.  How should I do it besides the hand stretch?

One that I always do is put my arm straight out and then make a fist.  Then I put my fist (the thumb end) against a wall and turn away from my body.  It is a great bicep stretch and really hits it well.

The best thing that you can do is to just start armwrestling lightly and gradually working heavier.  Maybe bring a dumbbell to your tournament to do some warm-ups with weights as well.

Honestly, a full body stretch wouldnt be a bad idea.Remember there are alot of forces being applied and transmitted from your body. Also buy or use a little stress therapy ball and squeeze it for the hands to get the blood flowing. Shoulder and arm rotations including wrist rotations. Bending the fingers of the hand back gently a hold in this position for a count of 5. Tricep and bicep stretching keep it simple and dont exert to much energy the idea is to just get loose to avoid injury.

I think you should probably run for a few mintues just like you would if you was lifting weights and such.  This gets the blood pumping and heart going.  It also makes your muscles loose everywhere.  This is good way to avoid pulling a muscle.

Running is not a bad idea, it'll warm you up and get you loose for the upcoming match.
