Hi - hoping someone can field this question, but 1st, some background info to set the scene.
I dont believe I am "built" for arm wrestling, but really enjoy it. I have wrestled most of my friends and come up with the win, but only just in some cases. Last nights one was a beauty!! Told a mate of mine how I had had a few arm-wrestles in the pub and he was always keen to take me on. I had always put him off time and time again until last night. As soon as he put his arm on the table, I knew it was going to be tough. Hand was the same size as mine (maybe a medium size), but his wrists and forearms were what caught my attention. His strengths appeared to be my weaknesses. My wrists are not very big. My forearms are not the biggest either. As soon as we got going, I realized I was in a bit of strife, because I couldnt control his wrist the way I wanted to and we kind of just stayed there. Then I started to go backwards for a moment as I went to hook him - maybe just an inch or two. This guy wasnt going to go down with a hook. I thought I was in serious trouble and then I realized I was fighting this battle in the wrong place. I was losing in the wrist but not any where else. I changed from the hook and went into a top roll - but more round the side than over the top - all I could do with no wrist strength. In all honesty, I left my wrist behind for now because I was losing there. I have seen pictures of it in your forums here. and example of what I did (the way my wrist was) is at:

My arm was like the guy with his back to us. I cant say it was the best thing for me to do, but I wanted my wrist back and wasnt going to get it in a hook. From there, I used my weight. I outweighed this guy by about 30 pounds. The harder I pushed, then the armwrestle started to go my way. I hit him with a good burst of power and that got me back to square. From there, I really dug in locked the shoulder and put my weight behind it. Now, he was fighting my arm and ALL of my weight. It certainly wasnt comfortable for my wrist. I hit him with surge after surge after surge of power. Centimeter by centimeter, inch by inch I started taking him down. In the end I was chopping him down like a tree with my surges - one about every half a second until he caved. What I fight back!! Although I didnt say too much about it at the time, I was very impressed with myself. Not because of the fact that I won - more about how I did it from such a difficult position. Maybe if my opponent knew as much as I did about armwrestling it may have been different and I may have lost. (not that I think I know much - he just knows nothing :-D ) I knew he didnt know much because I was accused of cheating afterwards. Someone watching said " you cheated - you used your weight to win". Naturally, I responded with "my weight is my advantageand there is no rule that says you cant do that" They eventually understood and agreed. Kind of funny - its an arm wrestle, but theres so much more to it. Maybe they should call it "body wrestle holding hands with elbow on table" :-D
Anyway, getting back to it. After the arm-wrestle, my wrist was a little sore from all the punishment I gave it. This morning, my wrist is very sore indeed. Its not swollen or anything - just very sore. I think I may have stretched all my tendons around the wrist. I have a few questions. Firstly, can I do any permanent damage to my wrist from arm-wrestling? Secondly, I want to increase my strength in my wrist. Could some one please share their advice on strengthening and thickening the wrist? The things that I am doing seem to get me stronger, but my wrists still remain small (not getting any bigger) I would lover to have some more size on my wrist. Any help would be really appreciated.
Thanks

With your writst hanging over your knee, grap a dumbell and slowly curl upwards until you feel a stretch then lower it back down but resist on the way down just like in a bicep curl. Perform this exercise with 3 sets of 12 Also take a light weight (6-10 pounds) and with your wrist straight and arms supported on something, hold the dumbell for 1 minute. Perform this 3 times and switch hands, really allowing the wrist to bear the weight building those muscles in the wrist. When your done, flip your wrist over with your palms facing upwards and perform the same exercise. Do these exercises everyday and you will see results.

Hi,
Thanks for your response - I will most certainly give that a shot. It has been 8 days and my wrist is still a bit tender - on the back of my wrist (opposite to the palm side). It feels like I have stretched those tendons there. Just to confirm one way or another - can anyone advise if you sustain any permanent damage to the wrist from arm wrestling?
Thanks,

I hate it when people do that. people even accuse me of cheating when I
simply curl my wrist. And I'm like "dude, your wrist is part of
your arm! It's arm wrestling!"
Sounds like a good win, I don't have very big wrists, either, but can
usually power down my opponents with a hook. The toproll is to tricky
for me. (just wnated to see what this emoticon was).
