help please - -$1000 riding on it

Hello all,

A mate of mine has pushed me into an arm-wrestling challenge with another bloke who is slightly bigger than me. He's so confident that I'll win that he put $1000 on it.

I'm not as confident as him, but I said that I'll give it a go. So here I am, joined up to this sight today looking for some tip on training and winning.

What I know so far,

Wrist anf forearm strenght is really really important - -so working on that

Don't know too many techniques though. ANY HELP will be appreciated.

Oh by the way, I am from Melbourne - Australia, so anyone in the area let me know!!

Hope to hear from everyone

Thanks

K-man

Hey bro, that is a lot of money riding on a pulling match.  Check this sight out, it has all the training techniques you need to know to git-r-done.  Good Luck and God Bless.

Hi Mate,

Good to see another Aussie in here. Its been a while since I last posted here. I love arm-wrestling, but its not a big sport in OZ. Are you really in Melbourne? I so wish you were in Brisbane....... no one wants to arm-wrestle round here. I am real keen to get it going in Australia... 1st rule... in my experience. Beware the little guy. I am about 105kg and I arm-wrestled a french guy in a pub and got done. He was a real athletic type. I have read in a few places... beware the athletic type or the tradesman. These 2 body types work a lot with arms and while they can sometimes look like nothing, they will often give you a touch up.

With regards to arm-wrestling - you should learn back pressure. Not that I have had many arm wrestles.... (not more than 50, but back pressure is pretty special. I have watched John Brzenk (see him on youtube) win from losing positions as a result of good back pressure. To try and explain, imagine curling weight with a dumbell, but cant get it up. It the idea that you pivot on your elbow and putting you whole body weight behind the lift. Instead of using you bicep to lift the weight, your body weight does it for you. Hmmmm... some examples. Check out Brzenk vs Semerenko at http://youtube.com/watch?v=JT3fm7CPy_s

Brzenk appears to be losing, but he holds his opponent using awesome back pressure.

Hmm... what else can i suggest. Most people don't use their body. You need to lear to put your whole body behind your arm. When you do this, its you vs, their arm. This is a great position to be in. I'm assuming your mate is no pro when it comes to arm-wrestling? Let me know.

Damn!! I so wish you were in Brisbane!!

Are you using a proper arm-wrestling table? If your not, then another suggestion is to (this is when your about to start), pull his elbow as close to your side of the table as possible. This takes his body away from the wrestle! Remember his arm vs yours and your whole body.

Hammer curles are helpful. Give good strength in the bicep which offers some resistance also.

Other than this, its all technique. I read somewhere that when you armwrestle a novice, you should toprole. This allows you to get high in you opponents haind and then break his wrist back. More times then not, its easy sailing from there.

I hope you go ok and I hope this post is not too late.

Regards

Kangarooted

Australia.

How did this match turn out? I have had a few matches for money but none that high.  Luckily I have won every one of them because I always go up against some cocky *** who has no experience armwrestling and thinks that he can beat me based on how much he can curl - and this type is the easiest to beat!  Anyway, I hope it turned out well for you!
